Max’s Restaurant SM Mall Dasmariñas

Max’s restaurant (also called Max’s of Manila) has been around since 1945 and has an interesting history. If you are so inclined, you can read about in Wikipedia. Although most of its chains are located in the Philippines, there are some international chains. We had lunch at the Max’s Restaurant in SM Mall in  Dasmarinas City the other day. It’s unfortunate our dining experience there was not a good one.

The beginning was positive as the waiter was very fast to greet us and provide menus. He asked us for our first names, which I thought was impressive, but he never used them. The menu contained a variety of chicken dishes and some Filipino cuisine. When we decided to order, we had to wait about 5 minutes to get his attention because he was chatting with other waiters. When we did get his attention, he was very friendly and told us our order would take about 5 to 10 minutes. It was more like 15, however.

When the order came, I was shocked. The menu stated that the chicken came with French fries. There were literally 5 overcooked fries on the plate. It was, nevertheless, presented nicely. The chicken was deep fried to the point of shoe leather and was drier than any chicken I have ever had. We ordered ice tea which came in a small glass.

No staff came to our table asking us how the food was or if we would like anything else. There were, however, 2 or 3 waiters sitting at a table playing with their phones and 2 girls at the door greeting people. When we were leaving, we had to go to the cashier to get the bill.

In conclusion, the layout and concept of Max’s is excellent. Nevertheless, I’m not sure if I would give the chain another chance. You only get one chance to make a first impression once, as the saying goes.
